Oral Histories
In 2000, the Group was awarded a grant from the
Royal Australian Historical Society to commence an
oral history record.
The objective was to record the authentic story of
BMC-Leyland Australia to balance the press reports
of the time and to get a greater insight as to the
reason for the plant closure.
An oral account of experiences and memories was
obtained from a cross section of staff who worked in
key areas such as finance, product planning,
marketing, engineering etc.
The recordings were made on digital audio tape and
interviews were conducted by qualified historians
Jennifer Cornwall and Deborah Stomps between
2001 and 2003. The recordings are available from
the State Library of New South Wales.
The project was overseen by Norm Prescott with
assistance from Sarah Szacavay of the Institution of
Engineers, Australia Heritage Committee.
